Top 7 World of Warcraft Mounts

Warcraft Mounts

Top 7 World of Warcraft mounts, you say? How do you go about making that list? Isn’t it impossible?

Well, it is difficult. First, I’ve narrowed down the choices to only the mounts that I have actually collected.  From those 250+ mounts, I have narrowed the choices even further to mounts that I have set as favorite in game. Then, I set out some criteria for evaluation.

Rarity

Rarity counts for a lot, so if it super easy to obtain, it does not score very high on the rarity meter.  There are many World of Warcraft mounts that can be bought from vendors for very little gold and no reputation grind.  These type of mounts are definitely not rare.

Uniqueness

Uniqueness counts for a lot as well.  For instance, many of the proto-drake mounts are very awesome.  Some are even difficult to obtain, but they all have the same model with different textures and coloring. I try to choose mounts that stand out from the crowd.

Personal Preference

And, lastly, my personal preference, or what I find aesthetically pleasing.  We all have certain color schemes or themes that we prefer.  Some of us like certain animals more than others.  Heads up! You will not find any boar or kodo mounts in my top favorite list because of personal preference.  It doesn’t mean they aren’t awesome in their own way; just that I prefer the look of other mounts.

Now, that we have that out of the way, I would like to point out that I am not choosing mounts based on utility at all. This list would be quite different with that criteria.  Mounts such as the Sandstone Drake or the Grand Expedition Yak are incredibly useful and would have an unfair advantage in a favorites contest.

So, without further ado, these are my top favorite World of Warcraft mounts (that I own):

7. Swift White Hawkstrider

The Swift White Hawkstrider comes in at number seven mainly because it does share a model with all other hawkstrider mounts. However, it is more difficult to obtain than most of the other hawkstriders. It drops from Kael’thas in Heroic Magister’s Terrace on the Isle of Quel’Danas.  If you were not lucky enough to get this mount during The Burning Crusade expansion, it can be a bit of a pain going all the way out there to farm it every day.

Overall, it is not the most difficult mount to get since, at 4%, the drop rate is higher than a lot of the rare mount drops. It can also be farmed daily as opposed to weekly for mounts that drop from raids. This mount scores very high on the personal preference scale for me because I LOVED the hawkstrider models when they were released in BC. I was obssessed with getting this mount when it first came out. Also, there are very few mounts that are such a stark white color which helps this hawkstrider stand out in a crowd.

6. Bone-White Primal Raptor

World of Warcraft Mounts

This is another mount that has a common model.  There are many raptor-model mounts, but the Bone-White Primal Raptor is the only one that requires 9,999 dinosaur bones from the Isle of Giants.  Similar to the Swift White Hawkstrider, this raptor stands out in a crowd because of it’s unusual coloring.  It is not as bright white as the hawkstrider, but the glowing pink eyes and lavender underbelly make it quite distinctive.

5. Ultramarine Qiraji Battle Tank

Archaeology can be a devastatingly grindy profession if you don’t enjoy it, but it can be worth it for some of the rewards. The Ultramarine Qiraji Battle Tank is one of them. Not only is it my favorite color, but it is the only Qiraji mount that can be used outside of the Ahn’Qiraj raids (excluding the no longer attainable Black Qiraji Battle Tank which might be the rarest of all the World of Warcaft mounts.)

This mount requires leveling archaeology, and then grinding Tol’vir fragments until the Scepter of Azj’Aqir becomes available to complete.  It is random, so it can take a long time to get it.  That being said, it is not nearly as painful of a grind as the Collector achievements for the Mists of Pandaria artifacts.

4. Celestial Steed

The Celestial Steed is easily one of the coolest looking mounts in the game in my opinion.  It has to be purchased from the online store, but I was bedazzled by the glitter and translucent wings and needed just one more mount for one of the mount achievements at the time, so I splurged and got it.

It’s not exactly rare, but only about 30% of WoW accounts have it, so it’s not super common either.  Ulduar is one of my favorite raids, and this mount reminds me of Alagon so it was a must have for me, and still one of my favorite mounts to this day.

3. Heart of the Aspects

Heart of the Aspects is another mount that has to be purchased from the online store, but again, it is just such a ridiculously cool mount.  For starters, it’s much bigger than many flying mounts, and it also has a unique moving style.  It is similar to the Cloud Serpent mounts from Mists of Pandaria, but not exactly the same.  Out of all the World of Warcraft mounts, this is the only one whose mount special causes it to fly up and around in a complete circle.

Also, despite all of the dragon mounts in this game, the model for this mount is different from all the rest. It is very unique, and definitely stands out in a group of mounts.

2. Tyrael’s Charger

This is another visually unique mount.  Tyrael’s Charger isn’t rare in the sense that the drop rate is low or it is difficult to get, but it is no longer attainable which makes it special.  As part of Blizzard’s World of Warcraft Annual Pass Promotion, this mount was given along with a free copy of Diablo III.  I was avidly playing WoW at the time, so it seemed like an awesome deal to me.

1. Enchanted Fey Dragon

Aaaaaaand, my most favorite of all the World of Warcraft mounts is the Enchanted Fey Dragon.  I swore I would never buy another mount from the online store again, and I fought mightily against the urge to do so when this mount was released.  I did not cave in until many months after it came out.  But, just look at it!

The dragon model is unique, like the Heart of the Aspects.  No other dragon mount looks like this. And it also changes colors! And, for a dragon, the face is adorable. Cutest dragon face ever!

That’s my list! My top 7 World of Warcraft mounts ^_^  I got the idea to make this post from the ASMR videos I made this week.  If you would like to see more of my collection, I have two versions of the video here:  A No-Talking Version and a Whispering Version.
